Motto: The Hidden Treasure
Seal beach once eclipsed Newport Beach and Huntington Beach in tourism. That was the roaring 20’s and the town was full of life. Long before Disneyland was founded, Seal Beach had a beach-side amusement park that brought such a thrill to the community that screams from rollercoaster riders could be heard by residents of the neighboring Long Beach. These days, people looking for Seal Beach homes for sale will find a town that is a quieter place with beautiful vistas and a relaxed atmosphere. The Seal Beach pier, second-longest in California, is an attractive location for young and old alike because of it’s beauty and history.
Although a small beach town, Seal Beach still makes room for the Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge. Nearly 1,500 sq.miles of wild terrain that provides a home and stopover for fish and birds, including the endangered California Clapper Rail. The city also has a refuge for people looking for some outdoor relaxation that doesn’t involve its 1.5 miles of beach. Sixteen beaches dot the city. For a complete list of all the parks and facilities as well as the amenities for each location, check out the city’s list of parks. For some hiking popular with locals, check out Gum Grove Park.
For shopping options, residents and visitors of Seal Beach will find that Downtown Seal Beach offers a quaint walk and pretty restaurants and stores. Although Downtown provides a scenic shopping experience it doesn’t offer access to what many of us are used to in malls and large shopping areas. The Shops at Rossmoor picks up where Downtown Seal Beach leaves off. There isn’t the same old-fashioned charm, but the Shops at Rossmoor is a mall with all the benefits: department stores, clothing boutiques, grocery stores, food court, and more.

The city is serviced by the Los Alamitos Unified School District and there is one elementary school in the city, J. H. Mcgaugh Elementary School, a highly ranked school, but students 6th grade and beyond will have to look beyond the borders of Seal Beach to find middle schools and high schools. Luckily, the city is small which makes schooling options in neighboring towns a very short commute.
Seal Beach has calmed down since its time as one of the biggest tourist beach towns in Orange County, but the community pride hasn’t ebbed a bit. Its pier, rebuilt multiple times with the help and fundraising of residents, and downtown are tributes to its past. These days, visitors and residents will find a slow-paced city with quiet beaches far removed from the bustling South Orange County shores.
