The City of Lakewood is located in southern Los Angeles County, just 23 miles southeast of downtown. As the archetypal post-World War II American suburb, the vast majority of its housing stock is small, single-story homes on tree-lined streets, sold initially to World War II and Korean War veterans who worked in the factories of Long Beach and the South Bay. Lakewood has since become a more contemporary city, where its approximately 80,000 residents take pride in a historic community, rich with excellent schools, 10 major parks for family activities, organized sports leagues, community gatherings and recreation classes.
