Artesia is a small, diverse city in southeast Los Angeles County, and is considered one of the Gateway Cities. It’s located conveniently just 19 miles southeast of Los Angeles and 10 miles northeast of Long Beach. Artesia is surrounded on the west, south, and east sides by Cerritos, and by Norwalk to the north. With a population around 17,000, almost every city residence is a single-family, owner-occupied home, close to schools, shopping, dining and recreation. Although Artesia is best known for the “Little India” section of Pioneer Blvd, there are also many Filipino, Mexican, Chinese, Portuguese and Korean-owned stores and residences in the area. Two of Artesia’s most notable landmarks include the East West Ice Palace, an ice rink co-owned by Michelle Kwan, and the Artesia Water Tower.
